Details
This page gathers the practical details that help you begin a conversation with us, from lead times and fabric quantities to custom sizing, cushion options, delivery and trade information.

How commissions work
Every Planted piece is made to order in our Cheltenham workshop. We begin with the piece you are interested in, the room it is for, how you want it to feel and any practical details such as size, fabric, comfort and finish.
You do not need to arrive with a finished design. A rough idea, room photographs, measurements or a fabric you love are all useful starting points. From there, we can guide you through proportions, upholstery details, cushion choices and fabric quantities before preparing a considered proposal.
Lead times
Lead times vary depending on the piece, fabric availability and workshop schedule. As each sofa, armchair, footstool and headboard is handmade to order, we will confirm an estimated lead time as part of your proposal.
If you are working to a project deadline, please let us know as early as possible. We will always be honest about what is achievable.
Generally our lead times are 6-8 weeks for sofas and armchairs. Headboards and footstools have a shorter lead time.

Fabric and quantities
Fabric is priced separately and varies by choice. Each product page gives an approximate fabric quantity based on plain fabric at standard width, but this may change depending on pattern repeat, fabric width, piping, borders or other finishing details.
We place a strong emphasis on natural fabrics and materials that do not need synthetic FR backing. Many hardwearing and high-performing fabrics can be made from natural fibres such as cotton, wool, linen, jute, flax and viscose, without relying on unnecessary chemical treatments.
We work with a variety of suppliers who offer suitable natural fabrics, and can help you choose something that suits the piece, the room and the way it will be used. We are happy to advise on fabric suitability, quantity, scale, repeat and finish before you order.
Custom sizing and adaptations
Many of our pieces can be adapted in size, proportion, fabric and finishing detail, with recommendations shaped around the room, the existing furniture, how the piece will be used and the comfort you are looking for.
Custom sizing can be especially useful for interior designers, period properties, awkward spaces or rooms where standard furniture does not sit quite right.
We also consider access from the beginning, as many of our legs are built integrally into the frame for strength, so it is helpful to think about doorways, turning space, staircases and any low ceilings before the piece is made.

Cushion options
Cushion choice affects both the look and feel of a piece. Some clients prefer a softer, more relaxed sit, while others want more support and structure.
Depending on the design, we can advise on feather, wool, natural latex or feather-wrapped cushion options. We will talk through how you use the piece, how much maintenance you are comfortable with and the kind of comfort that will suit your home.
Delivery and workshop visits
Collection from our Cheltenham workshop can be arranged, or we can advise on delivery depending on the size of the piece and where it is going.
We offer a two-person white glove delivery service, which we can quote for if we know what you are looking for, and where you are based.
If you would like to see the work in person, test pieces or talk through details, we are happy to welcome clients and trade partners to the workshop by appointment.

Trade information
We work closely with interior designers and trade partners. We can provide access to our price list, fabric quantity details, order forms and imagery, including lifestyle photography, product shots and dimensions.
We are also happy to help with client proposals and quotes, and can make recommendations on cushion inners, finishing details and adaptations.
We are always at the end of the phone or email for questions, and generous with our knowledge so designers can make the best choices for their clients.
Care, recovering and reupholstery
Planted furniture is made to be lived with, recovered and kept. Because each piece is built using traditional upholstery skills and the best natural materials, it is designed to have a life beyond its first fabric.
Over time, pieces can be recovered or refreshed with new cushion inners and fabrics as rooms, tastes and needs change.
This is central to how we think about furniture: not as something temporary, but as something that can continue to belong.

What to include in your enquiry
To begin an enquiry, it is helpful to include the type of piece you are interested in, rough dimensions, room photographs, any fabric ideas and whether you are working to a particular timescale.
If you are not sure where to start, that is completely fine. Tell us what you are thinking about, and we can guide you from there.
