The story behind Planted
Planted was created by Daisy and Toby as the first generation of a traditional British upholstery house: young in years, but built on old skills.
Born from our Cheltenham upholstery workshop, Planted brings together Toby’s deep upholstery and frame-making experience with Daisy’s background in jewellery, interiors and design. Together, we wanted to create new furniture with the integrity of an heirloom: pieces made slowly, properly and with a modern awareness of materials, comfort and long-term use.
Every piece is made to order in our workshop by accountable hands. One upholsterer follows the work through from first layer to final stitch, then signs their name to it. It is a quiet promise that the piece has been made with care, attention and responsibility.

Why we made Planted
Planted grew from the work we were already doing through Cheltenham Upholstery. For years, we had been restoring and reupholstering well-made furniture, bringing heirlooms and antiques back into use. Over time, our interior design clients began asking for new sofas, armchairs, headboards and footstools that could sit naturally alongside those older pieces.

We wanted to make that possible: new furniture with the same sense of integrity, made using traditional skills, natural materials and construction that can be recovered, repaired and kept.
Planted is our answer to that. A collection of new pieces made with the mindset of reupholstery, designed not just for how a room looks now, but for how a home changes over time.
Our Team
Planted is made by a small, highly experienced team of traditional makers. Our upholsterers are properly trained and deeply practised, with decades of experience between them in frame work, upholstery, finishing and restoration.
The two Marks each bring more than 30 years of traditional upholstery experience, while Stephanie, our upholstery seamstress, has worked with us for more than 15 years. Julie brings the precision of an experienced curtain maker, adding another layer of skill and detail to the workshop.
Together, the team brings the kind of knowledge that cannot be rushed: how a frame should feel, how fabric behaves, how comfort is built, and how a piece should be finished so it can be lived with, recovered and kept.

Working with Interior Designers
Planted was developed in response to the way our interior design clients were already working with us through Cheltenham Upholstery. Alongside reupholstery and restoration, designers increasingly asked us to create new sofas, armchairs, headboards and footstools that could sit naturally within considered interiors.
We work collaboratively with designers to develop pieces around a room, a scheme and the way a client lives. From scale and comfort to fabric, finish and detail, each piece is made to order in our Cheltenham workshop with the same accountability and care as our reupholstery work.

For trade partners, we can provide access to our price list, fabric quantity details, order forms and imagery, including lifestyle photography, product shots and dimensions. This is designed to make client proposals, quotes and mood boards easier to prepare.
We are also happy to recommend cushion inners, finishing details and adaptations where needed. We are always at the end of the phone or email for questions, and generous with our knowledge so designers can make the best choices for their clients. If you would like to see our work in person and test pieces in the workshop, we would be very happy to welcome you.
